Abigail Rorer

Born in Norristown, PA, I moved to Petersham, MA after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in printmaking. For a few of years I taught art while simultaneously doing pen & ink illustrations for numerous publishers including Houghton-Mifflin, David R. Godine, Norton, Umass Press, etc. I left teaching, had two children, and continued illustrating books. In 1989 I established and became the sole proprietor of The Lone Oak Press. The press was founded in order to publish limited edition, letterpress printed fine press books and broadsides illustrated with my engravings and etchings.  The selection of works to be published begins with either a text that inspires the creation of images or the desire to create images reflecting a certain theme with the text chosen later to support those images. Works are considered for their literary merit as well as a vehicle for illustration with nature being the overriding theme. Many of the images are multi-block color engravings incorporating reduction printing and frequently having some hand coloring.
In addition to the illustrations for my fine press books I also create one-of-a-kind images in various media; wood engraving, silverpoint, watercolor, and pencil. My award-winning books and prints can be seen in exhibitions and collections across North America and the United Kingdom.
